Timber Frame

The new skeleton could be constructed inside the firm limestone shell. This is taking shape while the protective timber skin on the West Elevation is gradually rotting away.

Timber posts were threaded through the gaps formed in the original intermediate floor and connected to the galvanised steel shoes which are bolted to the top of the foundation pads.

Posts are later doubled up for additional strength and rigidity - tripled on the West Elevation to resist wind pressure.
