Crystalizing the plan
Sketch plans were converted into Autocad drawings and the a formal planning application was submitted to North Somerset Council in January 2002.
The pre-application discussions seemed to pay off as the basic principles were accepted. Consultation with neighbours raised an issue about the small high level windows on the gable elevations, which was solved by ageeing to do away with them and put in another rooflight in the main bedroom instead. We were intending to put in a sleeping platform in this bedroom so another rooflight was welcome.
The other issue that needed to be resolved was the elevational treatment facing the footpath. I was quite pleased with the drawing that had gone in with the application, but the case officer wanted clarification about materials and construction. Further sketches and a sample of the proposed timber cladding were submitted.
Eventually, after a process of 4 months planning approval was granted.
